The No Longer Quite New Year
January is over – thank goodness! Such a cold one! I think we’re all still thawing out! Did you launch into the new year with resolutions and goals, dreams and ambition, embracing the fresh start? Or maybe you don’t subscribe to all the “new year, new you” hype. Maybe you flicked the page on the calendar and just plodded forward.
But, can’t we start a goal any month, any day, any hour – any moment? Yes, we can! We can set a 2026 goal on a random Tuesday in February. Or a Thursday in September. We can embark on a new exercise plan on any Friday afternoon, start a new eating habit on a Saturday evening, launch a decluttering regime on a Wednesday. There are no rules for when to begin a great new thing!
And, if we embrace some new targets in the middle of February, we’ve already avoided January 17th – Quitters’ Day. (Or perhaps we observed Quitters’ Day?) I think New Year’s resolutions can provide their own side of negative energy. And, the concept brings a lot of pressure following the holidays when life is nearly always already out of control. Who has time to think let alone plot a course for the year ahead?
Maybe you’re a rockstar and are still pursuing your 2026 goals – excellent! I applaud and encourage you to stay the course. Maybe you didn’t set any because of all the things – the holidays, the stress, the pressure, past failures, ditch day. Today – just a random day in February – is a fantastic day to take stock, think, dream, and apply some new strategies. Pick one thing. Pick twelve – there are no rules! Don’t let the calendar be your master. Today is an excellent day to begin! Today is also an excellent day to call your favorite realtor if your new goal includes buying or selling property.
